...

The main reason why I share the stuff that I render is because I like to read your comments, suggestions and positive criticism.

I deleted the 2 last posts and the poll because they were absolutely useless and, if this is how it's gonna be, form my point of view, theres no reason to keep reading your posts or asking what things would you like to see and, therefore, no reason to keep sharing anything.

Maybe I'll think about it again as I calm down, but right now all I can think about is deleting the blog and forget about it.

170 comments:

  1. It was only a couple weeks ago that I came upon your art and subsequently this site, and haven't posted before now. I've never cared for 3D artists before I came across your work but I was instantly smitten with what I saw.

I really hope some selfish posters don't drive you away and you continue to give us great work to look forward to. I have an inkling of an understanding what it's like to create something and be dissatisfied with the feedback you get on it, and all my sympathies for it.

Whatever your next work is (and I hope there is a next), I'm excited to see it. Regardless of the participants or the acts involved, I always find some enjoyment in viewing them.

  2. Wow... What happened?
I'm sorry if someone said or did something stupid...
I don't know about anyone else but I love your art and the ability to give suggestions as to what we want to see is damn cool.
well, I hope you don't stop..
I wish I had something better to say but I don't really know what this is even about.

  3. Please, don't be upset about some jerks. You know we all love your work no matter what. I really hope you'll calm down. As for votes, probably the best thing one could do to prevent such shit is to forbid anonymous votes.

  4. Hi Vaesark,

you already said it yourself, "think about it and calm down". That's all I would recommend myself at the moment. And apart from some crappy reactions there was/is indeed a lot of positive criticism and feedback going on, you should pay attention to these people, rather than listen to the fools. And yes, since I am bold enough to include myself in the first group, I encourage you to carry on.

By for now and - please - keep up the GOOD work.

  5. I think my post would have been within those you referred to, I apologize if mine was one that offended, (especially since you were good enough to take the time to answer my recent e-mail).

It would be a shame to see your blog shut down, yours is the first site I visit when I go online, (and some pointless posts shouldn't be allowed to ruin your work for yourself and others).

  6. Vaesark, don't do it, please, calm down.
IMHO you should make your page for registered only or just for identified only.

  7. From long experience, i can pretty much guess what kind of shiity remarks you got here.

Because of the near-total anonymity available on the internet, some people completely forget about basic good manners.

You would be amazed at the (sometimes) sheer hate that passes for comments on some forums. Some sites have even gone so far as to reserve specific forums for "flaming" only!!! (PureTNA comes to mind)

I'm afraid the only reasonable responses are:

1)Try to ignore it. Just delete the comments, shake your head at the stupidity of some people and forget about it.

2)Respond with humor. Point out (sarcasticaly, of course) to the offending "commenters" that what they say reflects more on them than on you.

3)Please remember that if you let a few assholes affect the way you live your life, THEY WIN!!!

  8. If you prefer to work just for you it's your choice...

if i can make anything by myself, if this thing was nice, i would be verry happy to share my art / work with others, just for showing my talent /skill / ability.

But i can't make happy a lot of other people with myself; bkz i sucks with art :P

I think you are a lucky guy, and me too beacouse i can see your art.

If you stop this "aventure" now for a very little percent a humans, they win.

that's the price you have to pay for being famous.

    you have just to adapt.
and i am sure, that some of your fan could helping you with your blog or for make a website.

    sry for my english.

  9. Hey, what's wrong here? You do a great job and we all, your visitors and fans can confirm that we like it so much. I'm personally didn't read comments so don't have any clue but I think that it's not a good idea to be angry because of several posters while all others will miss you a lot. Keep posting bro.. you are awesome. And the pool was good - I like Rayne who actually won.

  10. Came upon your work a while ago since it was posted on a board somewhere and it's fantastic! I of course had my favorites among the poll but I'm sure that whatever you end up making will be great as always :P

  18. Hi Vaesark,
It would be sad to see your great artwork vanish from the net.
I haven't seen such a good work by now and really appreciate it that you share it with us.
So please don't listen to a minority of ignorant people that try to upset you.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I just recently found your site - please don't stop now!
Perhaps the best thing to do is to not allow anonymous comments?
Like others have said, you will have to take a few bad apples along with the overwhelmingly positive comments you get.

    ReplyDelete
  20. You can't really rage-quit something that's this well established man. You'll just end up being even more angry later, and then without the ability to seek a solution.

I know it's frustrating when plans don't go off right or your viewers don't meet your expectations, but that's the nature of being alive, and certainly it comes with the territory of being an artist on the web.

But the thing now is, you're upset about something that cropped up in your recent posts, fine, it happens, and everyone has the right to get mad when they're not getting the materials and information they need. But since you deleted the posts, there are those of us who don't know what the specific problem was. Which make it harder for your readers to learn NOT to do that in the future.

People being jerks/stupid - it's going to happen, you don't have to choke on it, but it's going to happen no matter what

People not responding with useful info - that's a big part of being an artist, and that one you do kind of have to choke on and learn how to prod your viewers to get the results you want.

beware internet math - don't take any one post as anything more than the singular limited thought of a single person, and don't let it count for anything more, unless you really want it to. Don't let one or two posts or comments turn into "everybody" or "alot of my watchers", which apparently is more common than I thought.

Point is. I'm not sure exactly what went sideways here, so I can't really be of any use outside of what I can glean from your own statment and these other comments. So please, calm down like you said, and let's take another stab at just what it is you need from us.

    ReplyDelete
  21. If anyone said anything insulting, don't care. This is an anonymous place to be, therefore there are people who will always seek to destroy good work by words, yet they never have create anything on themselves.

That's why you can afford to ignore them. Because you create, and they... not. Simply as that. You are in a completely different league just by tht little fact.

    So go on

oh.. by the way... you do good work.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi.
I don't know what was done but When you asked what we liked to see I found it was really a good idea.
I come every day on this site with the hope I'll find a new stuff of your great work.
And I would be really sad you stop for some mistakes or few stupid guys.
You make some great job so I wish you'll continue.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi Vaesark,
first of all let me thank you for your beautiful art, which is by far the best 3d i've seen on the web and for sharing it with us.
(would have done that earlier, but my English sucks :P)It would be really sad if such a great site would vanish because of some ungrateful jerks. Please keep up the awesome work!

    ReplyDelete
  24. What in the world happened?!

I'm one of your lurkers, haven't commented more than once or twice, but have you subscribed to my RSS reader and regularly enjoy your work. I voted when you offered it and really have had my fingers crossed that Samus would be one of the winners. Also that character from Drakkansang (or something like that since I'd never heard of it before and had to look it up on Wikipedia).

How'd the assholes get to you? For me, it'd be more a case of me raging if no one voted at all, like, "Great, no one fucking cares," you know?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Dont let a few useless idiots bother you. Your work is great, please dont stop.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I don't know what the last two posts were, and I can't speak for anyone else. But I don't often comment precisely BECAUSE I like what you do.

This is probably a bit counter-productive, I realize. As an artist myself, I know the value of constructive criticism. But this is not my field; my comments hold less weight in criticizing renders. I would not like it for you to feel insulted due to an act of ignorance on my part as to how things work or how difficult they are.

If you wish to leave, then I nor anyone can make you stay. But do not think your work is not appreciated. It is, even if some like myself haven't really shown it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Just dont let the trolls get to you. I personally didnt like the last set (werewolf one) that much, but it was still good, and i enjoyed it. I seen some 3d stuff, but nothing better than yours.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dude, Your art is the best 3d stuff I've seen. If your worried about some people being dicks on your site, then just don't let anonymous users post, and kick the registered ones who are dicks. It's that simple. There is absolutely no reason to quit posting for all of your (at the risk of sounding melodramatic) loyal fans. I love your art, and don't mean to sound like a douche, but if your gonna allow people to post with anonymity, your gonna have to grow a thicker skin.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Errr... Vaesark. Posting how upset you are is generally not a great way to deal with trolls. It's like blood in the water for sharks.

  33. I have no idea what was written here, but if there was some rude assholes, just ignore them. But that would mean you're some sort of a celebrity, since people always want to mess with celebrities, that's kind of an upside, right?

By the way, making a poll and asking what characters they want to see getting it on with monsters is kinda like asking for trouble, everyone wants to see their childhood hero getting it on. Some people just know to ask nice, but there still is going to be a LOT of requests.

Anyway, your work is awesome and rude assholes is always going to exist, unfortunately. The more famous you get, the more there going to be. I dunno how 'blogger' works, but can't you delete the rude comments and ban them from posting?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'll add my voice to the crowd.

    BAD combo.
There always has and always will be rotten eggs, the trick is to try and not let em get to you. (ignore for thé win)
Read the positive ones, make polls regged only.

You are the only one I have donated cash to in any kind of field, that is how much I appreciate your work. If you feel you have to quit, I can only say you'll be missed.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The internet is full of people who are assholes for no reason other than the fact they're anonymous. Don't let anything get to you. Your art is fantastic and I hope you continue to share it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Don't quit now! You are on track to make a living out of something that you love doing... There will always be haters and people that are jealous of your talent, especially over the internet like this.

I am a HUUUGE fan and PLEAD with you to not stop. You are going to be able to do this FOR MONEY in the near future. Keep going man!!! Practice, practice, practice! Take the advice that some give that is positive and absolutely ignore anything non-constructive.

I see and hear the same thing with music: I sing and write songs a lot. Some criticism is important, while other criticism is worthless garbage. Don't let them get you down! Keep being artistic and keep following the dream, bro, because you are amazing at what you do!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Please don't quit. I've only just discovered your stuff and I think you're one of the few good 3D artists around. You seem to have a lot of fans and 99% of the comments on your sets are always positive. Ignore the (very few) haters.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Wait... what happened?

    Are people being noobs again?

I always recommend a healthy dose of doing what -you- want to do. Look for inspiration from other artists, stories, or games if you are running low on ideas. Never, ever ask the thronging masses for ideas.

Generally, 45% of suggestions will be illiterate, 45% will be rude, and 10% genuine. Of course, if someone is rude to you in the street, it takes about 10x that many nice comments to stop you feeling crap, so its better to just not give them the chance in the first place. i.e. in this instance, don't ask people what they want.

Overall though, you should keep in mind that you are well-respected among our niche fetish, and even by other artists. Your skill is always improving, and it would be a shame for you to drop off the radar.

Ultimately though, its your decision what you do, and I'll back you either way. :)

I'd be really sad if some idiot (which the internet is full of, as we all know) had really broken the passion and the joy you put in your work.
I can just say.. let it pass over, and if you feel again the joy, i'd be happy to comment your work in the future, something i haven't done yet.

Just do not put us all in the same basket, Im sure the vast majority of people who watch your work respect it honorably. There are just some retards who ruin everything as always.

  47. Well, pretty much everyone else has said it.

There are some real jackasses on the internet who just love screwing with people out of pure maliciousness. 4chan noticed you and decided to screw with your poll out of that maliciousness. Those sorts of people are the worst of the internet. You're not the only person they make angry.

Thing is, as disappointing as it might be to have some bully kick over your sandcastle, you have control here. You have the choice of how you respond. Will you go home and sulk or build more sandcastles.

They're only as strong as you let them be. Don't let some idiots ruin your enjoyment of something you clearly get a lot out of.

Take a break for a week or two, cool off and come back. By then most of the assholes will have moved on. Plenty of folks will still be fans and support you if you decide to stay. But it really is up to you.

Incidentally, I still vote for Kerrigan.

However, don't let the internet flamers ruin your mood. They are complete idiots and it is easy to just ignore them.

I love this site and would hate to see it get shut down. Your artwork is second to none and I love it. Thank you for all you have done and thank you for sharing it with us.

  60. Dear Vaesark you are an artist and the artist should do not really care about the opinion of others because the work done is what make an artist to be an artist. Many, many but many people including myself love the things you do. Did you know everyone who enter in your BLOG will download 4 of your sets al least?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Like someone else wrote: read some funnies, sing a happy song, watch a comedy or get your mood up in some other way. Please don't delete your blog because some idiot harasses you. They are in the wrong, they are the criminals (I'm pretty sure there's a law that covers this kind of behavior, it is most certainly not covered by free speech), and they should not profit from their crime. I know Fascism is on the rise in the West, if not by name, then at least by sympathies and acts, but they must never be given the satisfaction of seeing us destroying our selves and our work. Giving an inch, if not for tactical or strategic reasons, risks the entire fight, as the enemy will feel justified and invigorated.

You seem such a gentle soul, unlike me (ha), and such acts invariably has a stronger effect on the gentle, inexperienced. You can get out of your current mood. The blackness can lift, and abruptly at that. I should be following up my advice, and write a joke, but sadly, I cannot think of one right now. The rest of you, please write Vaesark something funny. Your favourite artist needs it.

Incidentally, Vaesark, see if you can get some volunteers to moderate the discussion.
Look up the word troll for why. This practice is an old one, dating from Usenet's early days, when someone found that they could elicit the best arguments from readers by playing Devil's advocate. It was later taken over by harassers, and moderation is the best tool that the internet has for stopping them. I am not sure that Blogger has facilities for that, but look into it. And remember, moderation should be for rudeness only.

I am very sorry this happened.

As I don't know what happened, I won't comment on it, but you should be prepared for more in the future. But there also the people who aren't like that, and do actually care. I wont categorize myself into either of those things, I'll let other people decide whether I'm one or the other, but personally, I do like your work very much and would miss it if you decided to stop.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I recently had an on-line debate over the usage of the word "gibberish". I'm not here to have it settled, but the argument it made me curious about usage conventions in general.
Back story: someone posted a politically charged message. I don't want to repeat it here lest people get polemic, so you'll have to take my word for it:
    1. The statement was intelligible, and successfully communicated thepoint it was trying to make.
    2. The statement was (for the sake of argument) perjorative andfoolish.
Another gentleman (let's call him E.S.) and I got into an argument over whether this message was "gibberish" or not.
We both referred to the American Heritage Dictionary for definitions. He claimed the message was gibberish based on the first sense of "gibberish" ("unintelligible or nonsensical talk or writing"), and the second sense of "nonsense": ("subject matter, behavior, or language that is foolish or absurd").
I claimed it was not gibberish because, in the dictionary, all senses of "gibberish" were concerned with unintelligibility, thus the word "gibberish" carried a strong connotation of unintelligibilty. Because it carried this strong connotation, it was incorrect for E.S. to use the second sense of "nonsense" to justify his labeling the message as gibberish. (The first sense of "nonsense" is "words or signs having no intelligible meaning", and that is the intended sense.)
I'm not looking for a judgment over who was right, but I'd be interested to know what are the rules of thumb here. Do connotations matter? If all senses of a word have a strong theme, does that invalidate defintions that could technically be true, but go against the connotation? I don't see how it could be possible that all senses of a word in a definition could be valid in general; context must always play some role in what sense to take a word at, but how important is context? How do writers and editors handle things like this; I'm not a writer myself but I assume they check the dictionaries from time to time. What if such a situation turned up? If, say, I was an editor and E.S. was a writer, could I conceivably be right to make him change itWhat would a Usage Panel do? What do they take into consideration? What about the courts? Thanks for reading, and for answering if you do that

  67. Plot summarAbsalom, Absalom! details the rise and fall of Thome of his own incestuous designs on his sir Literature. Its groundbreaking out of order storytelling, and frequent use of stream of consciousness often has had many critics calling Faulkner a pioneer of the modernist movement, along with other authors like James Joyce.
    [edit] Trivi
    * The title refers to the Biblical story of Absalom, a son of David who rebelled against his father (then King of Kingdom of Israel) and who was killed by David's general Joab in violation of David's order to deal gently with his son. Another parallel to the Biblical story is that Absalom had his half-brother murdered for raping Tamar, his sister. Faulkner's novel substitutes a seduction for the rape.
    * The 1983 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records has an entry for what it claims is the "Longest Sentence in Literature". It cites a sentence from Absalom, Absalom! containing 1,300 words (Author James Joyce might be considered to hold this record for the last chapter of Ulysses, which exceeds 4000 words and is printed without punctuation; however, it is not a true sentence but a stream of consciousness).
    * Faulkner's short story "Wash" tells the story of the birth of Sutpen's illegitimate daughter to Wash Jones' granddaughter, and of Jones' murder of Sutpen, and then his own granddaughter, and his great-granddaughter (whereupon he sets fire to the house the mother and child are in).

We all respect your art, but don't let one fool mess with your site!

Create your own art for now and repost a poll when the time is right again.

  73. To Wetzlar
4chan is a place where the worst slim of the social world gather to pretend to be something they are not.
The "Anonymous" that comment from "4chan" are simply fools pretending to be important and wishing their opinions mattered to someone.
They call themselves the Anonymous because they think if they just call themselves an Anon that they will be one and have unlimited power to be an idiotic jackass.
They are just feeding off a movement that they can not understand and pretending to be something they will never be.

In basic terms, they are not worth paying attention to... It only makes them think their meaningless existence is validated.

  74. By the way, I almost forgot to mention, Vaesark...

While I like your renders, the past few sets seem to really be digressing from your usual quality.

Perhaps you really do need to take a break, just to reignite your creative spark.

In a nutshell, the web doesn't need want-to-be artists, so please brush up on your skills a bit before spreading your pictures across the internet.

    Thank you for reading.

PS: 4chan is a bunch of loosers who wish they could flame like me.

I can't even begin to explain how much I hate them. I seriously just feel like crying sometimes.

  78. I’d like to expand on what I said before.

I myself posted a comment, and I’ll admit that it wasn’t exactly productive, but in my defence, it was not rude, nor was it hateful or obscene, it was simply an attempt to spark thought and conversation, as is my understanding of blogs.

There will always be people that are jealous of the talents of others, and instead of improving themselves, will try to disrupt those that they are envious of, I like to think that these people are a minority, and that the majority of comments posted were just ill thought out, not malicious, and that the authors are apologetic as I am.

Sadly, ANY person in the public eye must deal with these trouble makers, and find a way to cope with them. Submitting to these people gives them permission to repeat it, without adversity we do not grow!

I believe, (and I’m not alone) that you and your art deserve the future that is only a short time away, you have a very bright future!

Do try to ignore small minded people, they are fleas, my sister always says, "Those that mind don’t matter, those that matter don’t mind."

A friend of mine showed me the 1st issue of DD a few weeks back as a means of getting me to break out the old dice and rulebooks... its been a fun, bloody and decadent trip down nostalgia lane >:-)

As to lack of feedback or disruptive nimrods, thats just the nature of the net. Be like the Drow you render and smile at the prospect of knives from the dark!

  80. Hmm, I am not entirely convinced that the wanker doing this is from 4chan. I find nothing but appreciation for Vaesark on 4chan.org, and in the /d hierarchy, not /b.
Granted, I could not find any archiving function on that board, and the discussion moves far too fast for me to regard the lack of hostility as evidence. Still, if true, this narsissist is likely acting on his own, without the support of the Anonymous movement. I wonder if /b (generally anti-censorship, I suspect) might be interested in finding out who is posing as them.

I just want to agree with the last poster. I was never really a fan of 3D art until I saw your work.

I don't know what the comments were that annoyed you - I voted on those polls a few days ago, and just came back now to check the results. Lo and behold, some twats have really aggravated you in the meantime! However, a brief read through the posts on this page has shown that there are a lot of visitors to your site who genuinely enjoy your work and would miss your talent if it was gone. Myself included.

  85. Oh look, I've attracted the attention of the troll.

    > wow lol.

I do not think I wrote anything funny, but thank you, it is very kind.

    > newfag much?

Sorry, I do not understand that. Is newfag a word? Lemme see. It could be a portmanteau of new and fag, a pejorative word for gay. Now, I do not believe that downloading porn featuring males and females in coitus qualifies as a homosexual activity, so I cannot agree with that at all. Besides, what is new doing in that construction, anyway? It makes no sense at all. A conjunction with a word meaning thorough would work better, I would think. E-.

    > go kill yourself, k?

Child (for you are a child, are you not?), you have done nothing that would have any chance of making me kill myself. Those cut-and-paste tricks you are using, are third-rate, at best.

Incidentally, Vaesark, Pharyngula has a link to Daniel Martin's killfile Greasemonkey script for Firefox. You can remove any or all posts by Anonymous, for instance, with a single click. It works reasonably well for your blog. A downside would be that this would plonk every post by Anonymous, include benign people using the moniker. The solution for that would be for the benign to choose a pseudonymous handle, such as the one I am using (Name+URL).

Anonymous (悪夢), cool to hear that. Am I right in assuming that you are a resident of 4chan? If so, I admire what you chaps did to the Scientology sect. That organisation needs to be taken down a peg or two. Good to hear you are not attacking Vaesark. It is something that really is nonsensical for an image board to do, after all.

Oh yes, before I forget, I noticed there were no references to 4chan or /b in the troll's latest missive. Methinks my aim was true.

(I do tend to go on, do I not? Sorry. I am not usually this talkative...)

  88. Anonymous above, I am not entirely convinced that all responses are good for the troll. He is incapable of making me angry, I am actually having fun. Besides, it allows me to give the proprietor of this blog good advice. Pity I cannot plonk him, though. I would miss your response as well. In general, though, you would be right. Ignoring or deleting his messages would be the right course of action. Of course, I do not have the power to ban him.

Anyway, I am not convinced he is actually from 4chan. I suspect he is just trying to capitalise on 4chan's fearsome reputation, and I have half a mind to take it to /b myself, and see if they wish to do something about it.

4chan is only one wound for the infection. We are everywhere and everything. We are everyone.
    But that's not important...

Scientology stands for everything any human should hate.

One of the only things I hate more are these people calling themselves Anonymous who think that if they act like an idiot and flame everything in sight they will be an Anon.
In being an ass to Vaesark, they are acting almost like "censors" because they are trying to destroy something unique and individual that has no boundaries.

  91. "Hope invariably leads to disappointment". One of my most well known philosophies and it never ceases to amaze me just how accurate such a little comment can be. No matter how well planned something is, no matter how certain the outcome, something will ALWAYS make it just that little bit worse than you expect it to be, if not destroy it completely. The more of an idea you have about something, the less it lives up to the expectations.

The more people involved in a project, the more things that can go wrong. Humans in their conflicted nature have a habit of being flawed. They automatically assume that because they create machines to a specific programming that those machines are not flawed since they lack the randomness. They are programmed with specific instructions to operate in a specific way and yet fail to include the most basic variable: it was designed by humans. Time and time again we prove that human-made devices malfunction either due to intentional sabotage or due to a human error at design-time. Yet humans in our arrogant nature refuse to admit that our ideas might be wrong or might fail. The Titanic is a classic example. The Titanic. The Unsinkable. Human arrogance.

Titanic is also somewhat of a laughable film. Perhaps you've seen it, perhaps you haven't. I'm sure that you know of the story. Professionals build a grand ship which sails carrying a whole load of people. Ship hits iceberg and sinks. I'd be surprised if there was a single person on the entire planet who went to watch that at the cinemas and did not know that the ship was going to sink. Talk about making a film predictable. Everything is forced to follow a specific convention. People don't play with stuff like that anymore. It would've been a much more interesting film if it didn't sink or if it got knocked off course and everyone ended up stranded on Gilligan's island...

Film makers nowadays seem to have a really specific agenda. They never deviate from the normality. I've yet to find a superhero film which ends in the destruction of the hero and the evil bad-guy taking over the world. Maybe it's just my imagination, but there seems to be a severe lack of people deviating from certain standards that seem to have been accepted with no level of compromise. What would be equally amusing would be if you had a film where the hero wins and then kills the girl that's been following him around for the entire duration of the film because she gets too annoying for him.

Comedians. I can't stand comedians. They're obsessed with rubbish jokes completely devoid of substance. Jokes are for people who have no grasp on reality. Anyone who has any level of understanding of how this world is and how funny the everyday lives of us all really are would realise that the best humour lies in what we see every day. Finding comedians who focus solely on the truth of life and it's happenings is as close to impossible as makes any odds.

The funniest people are the ones that think they know everything and are the only people who can't see that they don't. The really clever answers that they think up in order to cover up their lack of knowledge works fine unless there happens to be someone present who knows that they're talking complete rubbish. Just listening to someone ramble on about a subject of which they have no clue of is a very amusing hobby of mine.

  92. A couple of years ago, I made a posting on a message board on the ikonboard website containing a small trilogy I wrote on my beliefs regarding God, the nature of God relating to the space-time continuum and the devil. Quite disappointingly, I didn't get many responses to the posting. Text from that trilogy will be included in this text along with several updates to reflect my latest opinions.

Firstly, I do believe that a God exists. Two actually. In it's simplest terms, the human species is incapable of drawing an idea completely from scratch with no basis for reference. When I put this to several people, they started describing the most horrific animal in existence, based on the framework for a dragon. It was pink, could do lots of wonderful things including teleporting. All of which have been based on putting a whole load of random ideas together. Then if you tell someone who prides themselves on their own imagination that no one idea is truly original, they start to get all upset which really puts into perspective the human thought process.

Anyways, the point is that if some all powerful good being came to us saying worship me, I'm great, then two things must be acknowledged. The first is that if this being is truly a being of greatness, then whether or not we chose to worship him shouldn't matter. He should, as a being of good, accept all and forgive all, even if we happen to be the most evil person in the world. The second point which is the more relevant one is that if he is truly a being of complete goodness, something must've taught the human species the other side of the coin. Someone or something must have been there to teach us the forces of evil. Therefore I believe that we cannot ignore the possible existence of the second evil being whom we have nicknamed "The Devil". This being obviously has at least the same power as our "God" if not more so therefore can only be described as a God as well. I believe that is Christianity's first biggest mistake. They believe in there only being one God. By the human definition of a God, and the fact that they obviously believe that the devil exists, surely their belief that only one godly being exists is somewhat flawed.

I have a severe problem with the human race. Seven of Nine from Star Trek Voyager had the most accurate comment I've heard about humanity:

"When your captain first approached us we suspected that an agreement with humans would prove impossible to maintain. You are erratic, conflicted, disorganized. Every decision is debated, every action questioned. Every individual entitled to their own small opinion. You lack harmony, cohesion...greatness. It will be your undoing,"

  93. phone, people used to phone me just to chat. I still have about 2 people who phone me not because they want something but because, as good friends, the need to update each other on our lives and to talk about events that have occurred with each other is more important than the need to wait until a service is required by me. In a way I find, quite ironically, that the invention of the telephone has made our civilisation more anti-social.

One of the most popular human methods of manipulation seems to be accomplished through guilt. This is the lowest form of manipulation in existence. So many times you see people getting all upset when someone won't do something for them. Whether it's intentional or not, it still instils guilt within the individual upon whom the request was placed. That guilt then has a nasty habit of making the individual change their mind and do what was requested of them. Blackmail is another foul method used by humans to achieve this kind of manipulation but it's only second place to using guilt to achieve the required goals. The worst people for this are charity organisations.

Charity organisations have the wonderfully unique advertising campaign of attempting to make us feel sorry for the supposed wronged party and then asking us for money or supplies in order to help them. It's for this reason that I never pay attention to adverts for charity that I see on the television. Sure, there's people that need our help, but I'm sure that if they were in charge of the advertising, they'd show a lot more pride in their requests than trying to use guilt against us. I will never bow down to ANY form of guilt unless that guilt is self-generated. I don't believe in using guilt as a tool for manipulation and I find it somewhat disgusting that these charity organisations think that it's a perfectly reasonable method of extracting what they need from other more fortunate people.

I never understood why people seem to find other people's misery to be something to be proud of. Sometimes if you ask someone not to do something because you don't like it or because it causes mental or emotional pain, they'll adhere to your wishes and stop it. If you tell them to get lost, they will do. The problems come when they don't. When you give them chance after chance after chance and they keep doing the same thing over and over despite you having made it perfectly clear that it is causing problems. Sometimes this can be down to them not understanding why there is a problem, and when they realise, they actually stop. Mostly though, once it gets that far, there's only one conclusion to make: they like seeing you suffer. I only ever found watching someone else suffer to be of sufficient interest to me when they'd gone out of their way to make me suffer in the first place. What I don't understand is why they feel the need to begin the vicious circle in the first place. What is there to gain from making an enemy from someone who could perhaps become a good friend? Or more to the point, what is there to game from turning on your good friends and making them suffer for no discernable reason? The human thirst for creating pain and suffering is something which I don't think I'll ever really understand.

In the TV series, Stargate SG1, the Earth team, SG1, goes to other planets on a mission of exploration. The primary mission is to gain new technologies for the planet Earth. Time and time again, they meet with other more advanced races and are told exactly the same things. Either they're not willing to give the technology because it's against their principles, or they can't give it away to Earth because they're more afraid of us using the technologies for internal warfare rather than to defend the planet against external attacks.

Have you ever noticed that I seem to get annoyed by a lot of things? Well guess what; here's something else that annoys me. Have you ever accidentally said or done something without thinking about it and really offended a close friend? Some people take holding grudges to a whole new level. Just when you think that you know someone or that you've gotten close enough for them to accept that you're human and do make mistakes, you slip up just once and no amount of apologising helps. They'll spend weeks and weeks refusing to talk to you, rejecting your calls, ignoring your messages. There's a theory that I've seen thrown about all over the place which I'm starting to understand the origins of; "A friend is just an enemy you haven't pissed off yet". It seems that all it takes is one little mistake and you can lose a friend completely and gain an enemy. I guess you never really know people as much as you think.

Now for yet another thing that annoys me; those with superiority complexes. That in itself isn't all that evil. Someone might have a superiority complex because they are indeed superior. It's the ones that aren't that annoy me. The one's who'll complain about something that you do simply because it's something they don't do and that they believe that others shouldn't do. This can lead to hostility and/or arguments and generally isn't very nice.

As you may have noticed, I'm a very opinionated person. I have opinions about pretty much everything and am not particularly careful about who I tell them to. As such, I find that a lot of the opinions I have are rejected by others. This is common due to the nature of humans and the fact that rarely will everyone agree on anything. The problem comes when people fail to be able to draw the line between opinion and fact. There's an increasing number of people who believe that their opinion is correct and everyone elses are wrong. I find this tends to be more common in people who choose to live their life having chosen not to do a specific thing. This generally includes those who abstain from things because of religion and vegetarians.

Whilst it's not necessarily true of all people who fall into these sorts of categories, it's common for these people to believe that they're better than you because they're giving up something for the greater good. These are the sorts of people who will tell you you're wrong and refuse to even listen to your own opinion because they believe that their opinions are the only ones that could possibly be correct. They use your own opinions to judge you by and look down on you because you don't necessarily believe as you do.

Unfortunately, the types of people who are unable to accept other opinions are also the same sort of people who feel that it is necessary to enforce their opinions on other people. There appears to be an increasing number of people who believe that they're right and everyone else is wrong because they've found something that works for them. One of the common examples of this these days is that of online forums. Let's take, for example, a computer forum designed for people to discuss issues with Windows. Someone posts up a problems and someone else responds, starting a chain of responses. A number of these responses are invariably users of non-Windows systems such as Linux who believe that the best solution to problems with Windows is to simply stop using Windows and use Linux. Not content with that, they then proceed to explain why Linux is so much better and that it is the ultimate solution to any Windows problem.

One day while walking alone in the woods, a man came across something that gave him reason for pause... a brittle, mishapen branch had fallen from an old tree and landed by the bank of a small but quickly moving stream. Balanced precariously on a stone jutting out from the underbrush, the branch teetered back and forth, one end dipping in the edge of the water, then falling back, tapping lightly against the stone. For nearly a half an hour the man watched this, transfixed by the picture of beauty before him... the gracefull run of the stream, the delicate rhythm of the branch's tapping... he watched, and began to lose himself in the simplicity of it all... then, as he sat crouched by the side of the stream, sun breaking through the tips of the trees, a cool wind gently scraping across his cheek, he had a revelation... "great," he sighed... "now I have to pee."

  139. Disabling anonymous posting would definitely be a good thing. It would allow killfiling to work effectively, for instance. It would not stop trolls, however, though it would make instances rarer. Right now they are posting as Anonymous because it is the path of least resistance, but the reason they are trolling is that they are having fun, and that they regard what they do as right and proper. The more obstacles that are thrown in their way, the less fun it is, but trolling is common on blogs where registration is required, and the only thing that stops them is mass deletion or modification of their posts, and banning of their handle, the practise known as moderation. Some even come back under a different handle, but if the reason for banning is rudeness, this will just get them banned again.

This is why I advocate moderation, and not just registration.

I can understand if someones comments can get you upset, but sometimes you can't let things get to you too much. I appreciate what you do. 160. @Anonymous, above:

First off: big of you to come forward. That takes courage, and shows there may be potential for virtue. Points off for doing so anonymously, even choosing a pseudonym would be better.

As for your apology, I think you need a few pointers.

    1. An apology starts with the word 'sorry'. Without it, it is not a true apology. Other words or phrases, such as 'please excuse me' or 'forgive me' may be substituted.

    2. You may explain your actions, but you may not justify them. This may seem unreasonable, but since you are the one in the wrong, there is no justification for what you did, and the one you are apologising to, will recognise this immediately. cf I was only following orders', You should not keep valuables in the open where people might steal them.

    3. You may finish with the word 'sorry' (see 1 above), again. Offers to fall on your own sword or disembowel yourself are not strictly required.

    4. If the incident is ever brought up again, offer apologies again. This shows that your original apology was genuine.

These are relatively easy steps, but they must be followed more ore less exactly.

Your apology was no such thing, sir. Do better.

    ReplyDelete
  161. You think you're getting through to that guy? Stop lecturing and trying to act high and mighty already. He mentioned nothing about the message being an apology. I can see that you have a lot of experience of ass-kissing in the past.

Demanding an apology is useless, because all you will receive is an insincere apology. Repeat that a thousand times and it's still pointless, and insincere. And an insincere apology is nothing.

    ReplyDelete
