PC master race

I've bought a new PC, I'll have it within 1-2 weeks, the performance boost compared to my current PC should be notorious. The specifications are:

Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Extreme
Processor: i7 3930k
Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 690
Ram: 32 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K 2,5" 480 GB
HD: 1TB WD 7200rpm

I can't wait to see how fast the i7 3930k can render and to not have to close applications because I'm running out of memory, also, Skyrim maxed out with a bazzillion graphic mods with the gtx 690 must be awesome, I've seen some breathtaking videos on youtube...
Anyone using a SSD can share their experience with loading times? are they as good as they say?
Anyway, I won't be able to do much until my new rig arrives but, once it's here and everything is installed... I'm going to squeeze every bit of it...

I'LL RENDER AND PLAY VIDEOGAMES WITH MY HEAD HELD HIGH.

  1. if you say that the video will be 8 gb you'll blow my head
p.s.did it cost about 4k euro or dollars
    dont know were you live

  3. I like the setup. I ween 3770k instead with mine and am running with a gtx 590 still but, skyrim still runs perfectly maxed out with all the mods I have so, set for now. However I would suggest you invest in A COSAIR H100i for your processor cooling. I have my 3770 overclocked to s stable 4.5 and it handles all my cooling needs perfectly. It should help you render that much faster.

  4. Those are some awesome specs indeed. I'm jealous! Hopefully with faster render times we'll get more sets than ever! And, gaming of course, loadsa gaming!

Also, which case did you get? I'm just curious. Must be a worthy case of all hardware.

Anyway, hope you enjoy your new rig.

  7. Forget about load times, an SSD is more a full package experience, it's the little pauses and waits that go away.

Once you've used one you might not realize what the big deal is, until you sit back down behind a PC that doesn't have one, it's jarring. (I know, because I have one at home, while my work PC doesn't :( )

  8. I thought SSDs where still laptop only o_0
Wow im out of touch need to update my IT knowledge

  11. You must tell us what your current specs are to see how much of an upgrade it is. :o

  12. Congrates on your upgrade.

Any chance you could re upload sets: The Farm, Selene and Lilu and Nala as the links come up exhausted.

I don't do videos... yet. I have to pay the overpriced €uros :/

"one more think i7 with how much GHz"

    3.2/3.8 6 cores

Shmaded, I'll keep that in mind if I over-clock it.

watx, it's an Antec "Twelve Hundred"

The SSDs were available for desktop PC for a while, it's only now that the price is less... restrictive that are incorporated in med/high PCs by default

Zafo, oh I will... and also make my testament, just in case I die of pure awesomeness :D

good to know, thanks. Can't wait to check it by myself :3

Malogado Aknoes, gracias, espero poder sacarle todo el partido posible a esta máquina :)

???. "Please tell me which ZP that's from. It's been a while..."

What are you talking about? o.O

    DJ Cold Crow.

    Asus p5q premium
    Intel core 2 Quad Q9550
    4 gb ram ddr2 800 (if I put more I get BSOD)
    nvidia gtx 295

NightFall, looks like rapidshare has put a bandwidth limit...

    fuck

I guess that I'll have to look around for alternatives -_-

  14. Maybe Mediafire, I use it for my pics and sets, it has a 50gb limit for free users.

  15. An SSD is so important. Not only will any massive program load in an instant, but whenever your in a game like skyrim, stuff like footstep noises in combination with shifting music whenever a battle starts can bring sudden crashes to traditional hard drives. SSD's hardly never crash like that.

  16. Vaesark, would you be interested in a dedicated host? I have a server that I use for torrents that gets like 2TB of bandwidth a month on a 500 megabit pipe, and I only use like 10% of that. I could easily put your files up on the HTTP server, hell, I have all of your stuff already (including the "old" sets).

  17. Well that's quite the upgrade then. O.O

    I'm not ???. Just a passer-by clarifying.

ZP = Zero Punctuation. It's a game review series on youtube where the guy reviews games while speaking with no punctuation. The picture that you have up there in the post is from a ZP video, and ??? is wondering which one it's from.

  19. Ever since I got an SSD - loading times were decreased to 1/5th of what they were before.

  20. Congrats on the new computer, Vaesark! Wow, the GTX690, that's quite a large sum of money you paid.

The SSD will reduce your boot-time and program startup time by a lot. The problem is they're usually smaller (capacity) and more expensive, so a good method is to have your OS on the SSD and the rest of your stuff on a regular HDD.

  22. Good sir, I was wondering if you ever considered releasing your 3d models for download. Or does the idea violate some sense of creative control?

  23. Hello there Vaesark, youre a pretty cool guy!

SSD is overhyped, there is virtually no difference in loading times in Skyrim, because Win7 is pretty intelligent already, and aggressively caches stuff in RAM, of which you have plenty.

Geforce 690, i dont know how you do rendering but the nvidia 6xx have weak floating point computation compared to the ati 7970. and somehow i think renders arent done with integers.

Most of the models that I use are created by professional artists and the license doesn't allow redistribution.

we'll see about the SSDs, but "virtually no difference in loading times"? Seems unlikely o_O

The gtx690 and the ati7970 aren't made with this kind of rendering in mind, they are focused on "real time" 3D rendering, the only benefit is for the 3D display while assembling a scene, during the actual render the workload is on the processors, in my case it will be the i7 3930k. The reason for getting the gtx690 is for gaming :3
There are professional cards for rendering like the nVidia QUADRO or the Tesla ones, but they are very expensive and useless for gaming so it's not what I need.

  25. well ofc ssd is faster reading but Win7 caches everything to RAM. Skyrim is like 10gigs and will automove to RAM including savegames, so there will be literally no harddrive interaction other than writing savegames. check the ram usage the "standby ram" is the cached stuff, it usually takes 5gigs of my 8gb total memory. Im horrified at how much it will be on yours.
